India Development Gateway


InDG (India Development Gateway - www.indg.in) is a country-wide initiative that will target specific country needs in the domain of rural and social development. The Gateway is the National portal of India developed as a single-window access to information and services, with specific objective of reaching the ‘un-reached’ rural communities of India, especially women and poor. It catalyses the use of ICT tools for knowledge sharing, leading to development.

The Launch of the Portal
The President Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil launched the multi-lingual Portal (www.indg.in) of India Development Gateway initiative, in New Delhi on 4th July at Vigyan Bhawan. The portal will provide information on strategic needs of the poor and the marginalized in local languages. Rural communities can immediately access information in five important sectors namely, Agriculture, Rural Energy, Education, Health and eGovernance. The languages in which services are available are Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and English. In the coming days, more sectors and more languages will be covered.

Aims and Objectives
India Development Gateway (InDG) is a nation wide initiative that targets specific country needs in the domain of rural and social development. The initiative aims to provide credible information products and services that respond to the real and strategic needs of the rural communities, especially the marginalised and poor, in local languages. It catalyzes the use of ICT for collaboration and knowledge sharing among development stakeholders representing from Government, NGOs, community based organizations, private, and Academic, Research Institutions leading to development
To meet the objectives of InDG, the following strategy is in place, namely:

*the Gateway to build strong credibility and brand equity
*Deliver value added content and services through the identified verticals on the Gateway, through
online and offline presence
*Propagation of Government schemes through the Gateway
*Use local languages to the extent possible for content delivery and services
*Ensure strong pro-poor and pro-women orientation in all programmes
*Build a framework for financial sustainability
